98 Dead In UP, Bihar As North India Swelters Under Extreme Heatwave
As many as 98 people have died and around 400 hospitalised amid soaring temperatures in several parts of North India. While 54 deaths were reported from UP, 44 people died in Bihar in the last three days.
A severe heatwave has swept North India, with most places seeing temperatures north of 40 degrees.

Notably, Ballia district in UP is reeling under severe heat and people are getting admitted to the hospital for treatment.
Those admitted were suffering from various illnesses, adding that elderly people are not able to tolerate the sweltering heat. The authorities have arranged for fans, coolers and air conditioners in the hospital to prevent the risk of heat stroke for patients and staff.
23 patients died on June 15, 20 the next day, and 11 yesterday, SK Yadav, in-charge Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Ballia, said.
"34 people had died due to heatstroke. All the deceased were old and had some ailment. Because of the heat, those diseases aggravated and they were brought in serious condition to the hospital and died during treatment and tests. This was despite all arrangements for medicines and treatment," CMS Dr Diwakar Singh, said in a statement on Friday.
Heatwave conditions prevail in North India
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that no relief from scorching heat in Odisha, Vidarbha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu.
As per IMD, severe heatwave conditions will prevail in isolated pockets over Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh during next four days; in Odisha, Jharkhand during next three days; in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal during next 2 days.
The weather office also said that in Telangana, East Uttar Pradesh heatwave/severe heatwave conditions will prevail in isolated pockets during next one day. It also added that gradual abatement of heat wave conditions from mentioned regions will be seen thereafter.
