974 vacant posts in CBI: Govt
New Delhi, Dec 17: As many as 974 posts at different levels are lying vacant in the country's premier investigative agency CBI, the government said on Wednesday but asserted that the agency's performance had not been adversely affected due to "effective use and optimal deployment of existing personnel".
Minister of State in the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Jitendra Singh informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply that 5,702 officers and staff were working in various ranks for Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as against a sanctioned strength of 6,676.

As per the data shared by Singh, there were 653 vacancies in the executive category which comprised of 3,891 existing personnel as against a sanctioned strength of 4,544. In the legal category, the sanctioned strength is 340 but actual strength is 77.
In technical category, against a sanctioned strength of 162, the actual strength is 97 while in the ministerial category sanctioned strength is 1,560 and actual strength is 1,405.
There is a sanctioned strength of 70 in canteen staff category but actual strength is 46, the minister's reply said.
In the reply, Singh also said that "with effective use and optimal deployment of existing personnel, the vacancies have not affected the performance of CBI adversely."
