Bengaluru, Mar 18: Union minister for women and child development Maneka Gandhi said that almost every government office, and nearly 90% of private sector companies do not have internal committees to deal with sexual harassment cases at workplace.

She was replying to a debate on the functioning of her ministry in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

She was also asked why the Parliament secretariat does not have such a panel.

JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav on Monday had triggered a furore by making an unpleasant comment about Smriti Irani during a debate on "sexist" remark by Yadav.

Minister also said that although the (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act was passed in 2013, its implementation remains strenuous.

She added that government is trying hard to ensure such panels are formed in all government as well as private workplaces.

On Juvenile Justice Act, she said the proposed amendment would also bring in the concept of foster care to enable children to be placed with willing families, instead of children's homes and the government would be ready to pay for it.
