9-yr-old girl slips into stormwater drain: rescue ops launched

Bangalore, Oct 6: A nine-year old girl slipped and fell into an overflowing storm water drain at Bannerghatta in the city tonight and police and fire brigade have launched a search operation.

The incident happened when the girl was going with her aunt to her house after visiting a relative, police said. Fire brigade and police personnel have launched a search operation to trace the girl, whose name was given as Geetha Lakshmi.

Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, who is in charge of Bangalore, said search operations would continue throughout the night. Bangalore has been experiencing heavy rains for the past few days.
