Bengaluru: 9 ISIS bound team let off after being cleared by police
The police had questioned all the persons after they arrived in Bengaluru after being deported from Turkey and felt that no case could be made out.
Background of the case:
Nine persons were deported from Turkey to Bengaluru last week after it was found that they were trying to join the dreaded outfit, ISIS.
Turkish authorities had detained a total of 9 individuals at the Turkey border while they were trying to cross over to Syria.
While 7 members of this which includes five children and a woman hail from Chennai, the other persons are from Telangana and Hassan respectively.
All of them were sent back to India after it was found that they were attempting to cross over to Syria in a bid to join the ISIS.
Muhammed Abdul Ahad (46 yrs) & his family comprising his wife & 5 children are natives of Chennai, Javeed Baba (24yrs) is a native of Khammam district, Telangana, and Ibrahim Nowfal (24 yrs) a native of Hassan.
Why were they let off?
The police on questioning them found no evidence that they were involved in criminal activities. Ahad was fortunate that he had taken his wife and children along.
The police felt that terrorists usually do not take their families along to undertake terrorist activities.
Moreover, he had made it clear to the police that he was only going there to undertake social work as the country was war torn.
The same reason was given by Javed Baba and Ibrahim Nowfal.
The police did a background check on them and even verified antecendents with the family members, but found no proof of any terrorist activities.
They even checked their online accounts and social media profiles but found nothing on them.
The Mehdi Masroor link too was checked to find if they had anything to do with the @shammiwitness account. However after nothing was found all of them were cleared and let off.
