9:41 On iPhone: Why Apple Set This Time On iPhones During Launches?

Apple has unveiled its latest iPhone and iPhone Pro models, featuring enhanced internal components and upgraded camera functions. The tech giant also introduced new Apple Intelligence features and refreshed versions of the AirPods and Apple Watch.

The new iPhone 16 comes with a physical camera button, giving users better control over photography, while the Apple Watch Series 10 is thinner, with a brighter screen, faster charging, sleep apnea detection, and a high-end titanium option.

But have you ever noticed that Apple's promotional images of iPhones and iPads always display the time as 9:41? This is not a coincidence-it's a tradition dating back to Apple's early product launches, rooted in the influence of Steve Jobs.

Scott Forstall, former senior vice president of iOS software and leader of the original iPhone and iPad software development team, explained the reasoning: "We design the keynotes so that the big reveal of the product happens around 40 minutes into the presentation. When the big image of the product appears on screen, we want the time shown to be close to the actual time on the audience's watches. But we know we won't hit 40 minutes exactly."

Initially, Apple set the time on their devices to 9:42 in promotional photos, giving themselves a few extra minutes to match the reveal timing. However, when Steve Jobs rehearsed his presentations, the first iPhone was typically unveiled at 9:41, so the time on the device was adjusted accordingly.

Forstall added, "It turned out we were pretty accurate with that estimate, so for the iPad, we made it 41 minutes. And there you are-the secret of the magic time."
