8 ISI-Linked Terror Suspects Planning Pan-India Attacks Arrested; Bangladesh Handler Key Planner

In a major multi-state crackdown, the Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested eight suspects allegedly linked to a terror module operating under the guidance of Pakistan's ISI and Lashkar-e-Taiba.

The group is suspected of planning attacks across India, with particular focus on high-profile locations in the national capital.

Officials said the operation followed intelligence inputs and monitoring of suspicious activity, eventually leading to coordinated raids in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.

Arrests Across States

Six suspects - Mizanur Rahman, Mohammad Shabat, Umar, Mohammad Litan, Mohammad Shahid and Mohammad Ujjal - were detained from Tiruppur district in Tamil Nadu. Police said they were working in garment factories and allegedly using fake Aadhaar cards to hide their identities.

Two more suspects, including Umar Farooq from Malda, were arrested in West Bengal as part of the same operation.

Investigators said the handler, originally from Kashmir and previously arrested in 2007, is believed to have fled to Bangladesh after his release and was coordinating activities from there.

Targets And Evidence

According to police sources, the suspects were conducting reconnaissance at various locations, including religious and heritage sites in Delhi such as areas around the Red Fort. Authorities also recovered mobile phones, SIM cards and other digital material indicating planning and coordination.

Posters with inflammatory messages were also reportedly put up at several locations in Delhi and Kolkata earlier this month, triggering deeper investigation.

Modus Operandi Under Probe

Police said the group relied on low-profile jobs, fake documents and encrypted communication to avoid detection while receiving instructions from foreign handlers. The probe is now focused on tracing funding sources, identifying additional operatives and mapping the wider network.

Officials described the operation as a significant breakthrough in preventing potential attacks and said further investigation is underway.
