8 Indian fishermen arrested by Sri Lankan Navy sent to Jaffna jail
The Sri Lankan Navy on Friday arrested eight fishermen from Nagapattinam district and confiscated their mechanised trawler for allegedly fishing in the restricted Sri Lankan territorial waters. The arrested fishermen have been sent to Jaffna jail.

According to media reports, the fishermen, hailing from Nagapattinam district, had set out on July 16 from the Keechankuppam harbour.
The arrested were identified as D. Amirthalingam, 35, D. Kumaran, 30, D. Chithiravel, 23, and B. Annadurai, 42, of Akkaraipettai; T. Veeraiyan, 30, R. Balamurugan, 35, and V. Rajesh of Nambiar Nagar and T. Mariappan of Keechankuppam.
It is the fifth such arrests made by Sri Lankan navy in the month of July.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami recently wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking him to find a permanent solution to recurring mid-sea arrests.
