7th Pay Commission: Is A September DA Hike Announcement For Central Govt Employees?

Central government employees eagerly waiting for the announcement of a dearness allowance (DA) hike might have to wait a bit longer. While earlier reports hinted at a possible announcement in the first week of September, this now appears unlikely. Latest reports suggest that the DA increase could be timed closer to the Haryana Assembly election date, possibly for political gain. According to the Election Commission, Haryana is set to go to polls on October 5.

7th Pay Commission Is A September DA Hike Announcement For Central Govt Employees

Historically, DA hikes are announced a week or two before the Diwali festival each year. However, this year, it may be announced earlier due to the upcoming elections.

DA Hike Expected Before Haryana Assembly Polls

Sources indicate that the DA hike for central government employees and pensioners may be announced in the last week of September, just days ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections. Once declared, more than 1 crore employees and pensioners could see a DA or dearness relief increase of up to 4%.

The Central government typically adjusts DA and DR for its employees twice a year-once in January and once in July-with formal announcements usually made in early March and October.

What About DA Arrears?

With these developments, central government employees are also awaiting news on DA arrears. If the DA hike is announced by the end of September, the hike in salary or pension will reflect in October, potentially granting employees three months of arrears, covering July to September.
