72 Crorepatis In Newly Elected Chhattisgarh Assembly

Out of the 90 MLAs in the newly-elected Chhattisgarh legislative assembly, a total of 72 are croreparis, an increase of four compared to the previous Vidhan Sabha.

The BJP, which secured a decisive win in the recent elections, leads this list with 43 crorepati MLAs, followed by the Congress.

Remarkably, 72 of the newly-elected MLAs, constituting 80 per cent of the House strength, are crorepatis. The BJP dominates this category with 43 out of 54 MLAs (80 per cent) declaring assets exceeding Rs 1 crore, while the Congress follows suit with 29 out of 35 MLAs (83per cent), according to an analysis conducted by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and the Chhattisgarh Election Watch.

The average assets per winning candidate in this election are Rs 5.25 crore, significantly lower than the Rs 11.63 crore recorded in the 2018 assembly polls. The top two in the crorepati club are BJP's first-time MLA Bhawan Bohra (Pandariya seat) with assets worth Rs 33.86 crore and outgoing Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel (Patan constituency) with assets worth Rs 33.38 crore. BJP's Amar Agrawal (Bilaspur seat) secures the third position with assets exceeding Rs 27 crore.

On the lower end of the spectrum, Congress MLA from Chandrapur, Ramkumar Yadav, holds the lowest assets among all MLAs, declaring Rs 10 lakh. BJP counterparts Ramkumar Toppo and Gomati Sai, the incumbent MP who contested the assembly elections, also have low asset declarations, with Toppo at Rs 13.12 lakh and Sai at Rs 15.47 lakh.

Educational qualifications among the MLAs vary, with 33 out of 90 (37per cent) having completed class 5 to class 12, while a majority of 54 MLAs (60per cent) hold graduate degrees or higher qualifications. Two MLAs have diplomas, and one has declared themselves as "literate." In terms of age, 44 winning candidates (49per cent) fall between 25 and 50 years, while 46 (51per cent) are between 51 and 80 years. The oldest MLA in the newly-elected assembly is BJP's Domanlal Korsewada (75), representing the Ahiwara (SC) seat, while the youngest is Congress' Bilaigarh (SC) legislator Kavita Pran Lahrey (30).
