Seven terrorists were involved in the attack on the Indian Army soldiers, which took place in Poonch Jammu and Kashmir, the preliminary probe has shown.

While a Jaish-e-Mohammad backed group has claimed responsibility for the attack, investigators are also not ruling out the possibility of the Lashkar-e-Tayiba being involved in the same. The source cited above said that the terrorists may have escaped into the dense forests and hence the search operation is tougher.

Another official said that the terrorists took advantage of the rainy conditions and poor visibility to carry out the attack.

The attack took place on a day when it was confirmed that Pakistan minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would be attending the G20 meet in India. This development also comes in the wake of Pakistan asking all G20 members, particularly to its all-weather friend China to boycott the event.

According to the Intelligence agencies, the attack was specifically planned and timed to create panic ahead of the G20 event. The terrorist group has done a thorough reconnaissance before staging the attack. The official cited above said that it is clear that this was planned to reign havoc in the Valley and disrupt India's plans of holding such a big summit. The aim of the Pakistan establishment was clear and that it wanted to instigate violence in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the event.
