68% Of Indians Feel India Getting Stronger: Pew Survey
A new survey by the Pew Research Center has found that almost 70% of Indians feel that India's influence in the world is getting stronger. The survey, which was conducted between February and March 2023, also found that a median of 46% of residents in 23 countries surveyed by Pew said that they had a favorable view of India.
The survey found that Indians' confidence in the country's strength is highest among Hindus (82%), followed by Muslims (68%) and Sikhs (66%). It is lowest among Christians (58%) and Jains (56%).

The survey also found that Indians' confidence in the country's strength is highest among men (74%) and rural residents (72%), and lowest among women (64%) and urban residents (62%).
The survey's findings suggest that Indians are generally optimistic about the country's future. This optimism is likely due to a number of factors, including the country's economic growth, its growing soft power, and its increasing role in global affairs.
The survey also found that the global perception of India is positive. The median of respondents (46%) view India favorably, compared to 34% who hold unfavorable views. 16% did not express a definitive opinion.
The survey's findings suggest that India is increasingly seen as a major player on the global stage. This is likely due to the country's economic growth, its growing military power, and its increasing role in international affairs.
The survey also found that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is viewed less favorably by some parts of the world than India as a country. A median of 40% of participants indicated a lack of confidence in Modi's ability to make the correct decisions.
Indian respondents, though, feel very confidently about their prime minister. Seventy-nine percent of Indians who were polled by Pew on their opinion of Modi reported a favorable view, with 55% of all Indians saying they had a 'very favorable' view.

A total of 20% of Indian respondents had an overall unfavorable view of Modi.
Pew said that young adults from India were more likely than older respondents to answer its questions on Mallikarjun Kharge and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, both of whom along with Rahul Gandhi do not command 'very favourable' views as the prime minister does.
And regarding Indian respondents, the think tank also found that men were more likely than their female counterparts to believe that India was becoming a stronger force in the world, although the difference between the two in terms of percentage points (71% and 65% respectively) is not high.
The survey's findings are a positive sign for India. They suggest that the country is on the right track and that its people are optimistic about the future.
The survey also highlights the importance of Modi's leadership in shaping India's image on the world stage. Modi has been a popular figure in India since he took office in 2014. He has been credited with leading the country to economic growth and with taking a tough stance on national security issues.
However, Modi has also been criticised for his handling of some issues, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the farmer protests. The survey suggests that Modi's popularity remains strong, but that it is not immune to criticism.
The survey's findings are a useful tool for understanding India's place in the world. They suggest that India is a country with a bright future, but that it also faces some challenges. The survey also highlights the importance of Modi's leadership in shaping India's image on the world stage.
