Responding to mounting criticism, Electricity Minister R. Nirmal Kumar clarified that many of the outages were caused by accidental damage to underground power cables during civil and infrastructure works, along with transformer faults and existing infrastructure constraints.

The minister revealed that more than 160 incidents of underground cable damage had been reported over the past year during excavation and contract works across the city. He assured the public that officials had been monitoring the situation continuously and corrective measures were already under way.
