67 MPs Suspended From Lok Sabha And Rajya Sabha; Here's How Social Media Users Reacted

Soon after the Parliament expelled 67 lawmakers for disrupting the proceedings of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on Monday, a meme feast over Indian politics and politicians kicked off on social media platforms. Sharing memes is a way to communicate thoughts and feelings through humor. According to the reports, Lok Sabha expelled 33 members, while Rajya Sabha dismissed 34 members for the rest winter session of the parliament.

The action has been taken against prominent opposition leaders including Congress' Jairam Ramesh, Randeep Surjewala, KC Venugopal, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, DMK MPs TR Baalu and Dayanidhi Maran, and TMC's Saugata Roy. Earlier on December 14, 13 lawmakers from Lok Sabha and 1 member of the Rajya Sabha were suspended. The total number of expelled Opposition MPs is now 81, who will miss discussions on some important bill slated for the winter session.

Suspended MP Stage Protest Outside Parliament

Reacting to the political uproar, netizens shared hilarious memes on social media. Some supported the speaker's decision, while some called it the first step towards anarchy. A social media user said, "Parliament has been used for ruckus and unparliamentary behavior. Protests in Parliament should be in the form of debate and arguments. Hopefully, next time around MPs will use that way."

Another user said "Suspension of Opposition MPs is a clear display of dictatorship. Diverse voices are integral to a healthy democracy."

Here's how social media users reacted to the suspension of members of the parliament:

"34 MPs have been suspended. The case of 11 MPs has been referred to the Privilege Committee. A total of 45 #RajyaSabha MPs have been suspended today. They did not want the House to run smoothly, this was their pre-planned strategy" the leader of RS Piyush Goyal said.

"This is totally unbecoming, we have never come across this in the past but we will continue to take this protest forward," says DMK MP Tiruchi Siva on suspension of MPs from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
