6500 paramilitary personnel deployed for bypoll

Tiruchirappalli, Feb 6 : A total of 6500 paramilitary personnel are keeping strict vigil in Srirangam, which goes to by-election on February 13, officials said.

Meanwhile, EVMs are being kept ready for the bypoll, where 29 candidates, including AIADMK's S Valarmathi, DMK's N Anand, BJP's M Subramaniam and CPI-M's K Annadurai, are in the fray.

The by-election was necessitated to fill the vacancy caused by the disqualification of AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa, following her conviction in a disproportionate assets case.
