6-Year-Old Odisha Girl Falls from Upper Berth During Train Accident, Miraculously Escapes Injury

A six-year-old girl from Odisha miraculously escaped injury after falling from the upper berth of a train that jumped the track in Andhra Pradesh. The accident left 14 people dead and 50 others injured.

On Sunday evening, the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada Passenger Special train jumped the track in Andhra Pradesh, resulting in a horrific collision with the Visakhapatnam-Palasa Passenger. The incident left 14 people dead and 50 others injured. Among those on board was Dilip Kumar Patro, his wife, their six-year-old daughter, and three others. Their harrowing experience and miraculous escape from the tragedy highlight the fragility of life and the importance of being grateful for every moment.

The Horror Unfolds

train accident

Patro, a resident of Odisha's Rayagada district, was returning home with his family when the accident occurred between Alamanda and Kantakapalle in the Vizianagaram-Kottavalasa Railway Section of Waltair Division of the East Coast Railway Zone. Recounting the terrifying moments, Patro describes feeling a massive jolt at around 7:10 pm, followed by chaos and screams for help. As the train derailed, his daughter, who was sitting on an upper berth, fell down. In the midst of the confusion and fear, Patro's wife and other family members managed to get down from the tilted coach.

Escaping the Wreckage

With fear gripping their hearts, Patro and his family made their way through the wreckage, encountering scenes of devastation and despair. They saw people running helter-skelter near the track, and two rail cars had derailed. Amidst the chaos, Patro spotted someone lying under a coach, apparently lifeless. Fortunately, the number of passengers on the train was low due to it being a Sunday, which may have prevented an even greater loss of life.

Gratitude for Survival

Patro's wife expressed her profound gratitude for their survival, stating that she would never forget the harrowing experience. Their immediate priority was to get out of the train and reach safety. They ran for about a kilometer to reach the nearby National Highway, where they were rescued by a Railways' rescue van. Many other passengers from Odisha shared similar stories of survival, arriving at the Rayagada railway station by bus from the accident site.

Restoring Railway Lines

While no passengers from Odisha were among the deceased, some individuals from the state sustained injuries in the accident. In the aftermath of the tragedy, the East Coast Railway CPRO, Biswajit Sahoo, announced that both up and down lines have been restored, and trains have resumed passing through the area. The immediate focus now is on restoring the middle line, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of trains.

The train accident in Andhra Pradesh serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of life and the importance of cherishing each moment. The story of Dilip Kumar Patro and his family's miraculous escape highlights the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity. As the railway authorities work tirelessly to restore normalcy, the incident underscores the need for robust safety measures and a commitment to preventing such tragedies in the future.
