6 arrested for attacking SDM in UP

Mainpuri (UP), Apr 18: Six persons were arrested today for allegedly attacking a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) here in Bichwan area.

The incident took place today when one Shailesh Yadav (24) died due to electrocution at village Saidpur Bagholi after which villagers placed his body on the road and blocked it.

SDM, Sadar, Gajendra Singh rushed to the troubled site to persuade the villagers to clear the blockade but the crowd attacked him and started throwing stones at him.

The SDM managed to escape unhurt but his jeep was damaged. Later police used lathicharge and lobbed tear gas shells to breakup the protest. "Six persons have been arrested in this connection. The situation is now under control", police said.
