54,000 petrol pumps across India to be shut on Oct 13: Here is why?

Petrol pumps will remain shut across the country on October 13, with the All India Petroleum Dealers' Association calling for a nationwide strike. The association also threatened for indefine period from October 27, if the demands are not met.

Federation Of Maharashtra Petrol Dealers Association (Fampeda) President Uday Lodh said that a decision on the issue was taken at the first joint meeting of United Petroleum Front, an umbrella organiwation of three nation-wide organisations of all petrol dealers.

The strike by petrol pump dealers has been called over various demands.

• The demands include implementation of the pending agreement signed with oil marketing companies on November 4, 2016, scrapping unfair penalties imposed under Marketing Discipline Guidelines, and approved but not given dealer margins.
• The Daily Mechanism has not benefitted the customer and the RO dealer by far and large. The policy needs to be reconsidered.
• The proposed Home Delivery is riddled with safety issues, which could lead to serious mishaps and hence should be reconsidered.
• The petroleum products should be brought under GST so that the dream of One Nation, One Tax could be fulfilled.

In view of the Diwali festivities we have decided to maintain a one-day closure, followed by an indefinite closure of purchase and sale of from October 27, till the trade anomalies are resolved.

Earlier, in the month of June, petrol pump owners had called off their proposed strike over daily revision of petrol and diesel prices after the government agreed to change the timing to 6 am everyday instead of midnight.
