500 shanties gutted in Ghaziabad behind Radisson Blu Hotel

Ghaziabad, June 13: At least 500 shanties were gutted on Saturday when a fire broke out in a slum here, a fire officer said.

The blaze erupted at 3:30 a.m. in the slum located near Radisson Blu hotel.

"We received a call at 3:45 a.m. Nine fire tenders were pressed into the service," said Som Dutt Sonkar, a fire officer with Vaishali fire station.

The fire was brought under control within an hour, he added.

Officials are yet to ascertain the reason behind the fire.
