5 Killed, 1 Injured as Lift Collapses In Thane High-Rise
A tragic incident occurred in Thane, Maharashtra, on Sunday when a lift collapsed, resulting in the loss of five lives and injuries to several others, according to the Thane Municipal Corporation.

Yasin Tadvi, who leads the disaster management cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation, reported that the building where this unfortunate incident took place is situated on Ghodbunder Road, as stated by news agency PTI.
Tadvi clarified that this was a construction lift, not the regular elevator, which fell from the 40th floor and landed three levels underground in the parking area, known as P3. The building is situated off Ghodbunder Road.
Preliminary findings suggest that one of the supporting cables of the construction lift snapped, leading to the tragic incident, which occurred at approximately 5:30 pm.
Upon receiving the alert, a response team from the Regional Disaster Management Cell and the Fire Brigade swiftly arrived at the scene, rescuing workers from the basement parking.
The exact cause of the lift cable malfunction remains unclear at this time, as investigations are ongoing.
The deceased workers have been identified as Mahendra Choupal (32), Rupesh Kumar Das (21), Harun Sheikh (47), Mithlesh (35), and Karidas (38). One additional victim remains unidentified.
