5 Days Working In Banks Soon: Bank Timings, Schedule Likely To Change; Details Inside
Bank employees in India may soon enjoy a five-day work week if the government gives its approval by December 2024.
The Indian Banks Association (IBA) and employee unions have reached an agreement on the matter, but final approval from the government is awaited.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the IBA and bank unions was signed in December 2023, with both public and private sector banks included in the agreement.
On March 8, 2024, a joint note was signed between the IBA and the All India Bank Officers Confederation, laying out the framework for the five-day work week and weekend holidays.
If the government greenlights the proposal, bank employees will receive Saturdays and Sundays off, in exchange for an extension of daily working hours by 40 minutes.
The banks are usually operate between 9.30 am and 5.30 pm in most parts of the country. However, it might possibly open at 9 am and close at 5.40 pm. It has to be noted that some are opened for public from 10 am and 4 pm. Once rolled out, customers need to find out the working hours by visiting their branches.
The banking industry now eagerly awaits the government's final decision, which could bring significant changes to the work-life balance of bank employees across India.
