4 phase Bihar polls from mid-October

Patna, Aug 13: The Bihar elections may get underway from mid-October and could go on for a month in four phases.

The Election Commission of India which has sent its officials to Bihar to analyse the situation is likely to make an announcement regarding the dates of the elections in the month of September even as parties have already begun poll preparations in a big way.

Sources informed OneIndia that the process is likely to begin in the month of October and would go on till November. The ECI has time till November 29th to complete the election process before the new assembly is announced.

Preparations underway:

Several officials of the Election Commission of India are in consultation with the Bihar state unit in connection with the Bihar polls. Security is also a major factor in the elections and additional forces will be deployed to ensure that the polls are conducted smoothly.

The ECI has also instructed the setting up of more polling booths. This is being done to ensure that there is no overcrowding at the booths. Overcrowding at the booths sometimes acts as a deterrent to many and they end up not casting their votes. There will also be a live webcast which would give booth wise information which will benefit the voters, the ECI official also said.

A meeting with the political party heads will also be held in Bihar to ensure that the polls take place without any problem. The Bihar polls are a high stakes affair and the ECI wants to leave no stone unturned in ensuring that it is a smooth and peaceful affair.
