35-Year-Old Woman Brutally Attacked By Stray Dog At Karnataka Court Premises

A shocking incident was reported from Karnataka on Saturday, September 6, when a stray dog attacked a woman inside the premises of Gubbi Court in Tumakuru district, leaving her with severe facial injuries, police confirmed.

The victim, 35-year-old Gangubai from Beerasandra village in Tiptur taluk, had visited the court for a hearing related to a family dispute. According to witnesses, the attack occurred as she stepped out of the washroom. The stray dog suddenly pounced on her, biting her on the face and continuing to assault her even as she tried desperately to escape.

Hearing her cries for help, bystanders rushed to her rescue and managed to pull the dog away. Despite their efforts, Gangubai was left bleeding heavily from her face. She was first taken to Gubbi Taluk Hospital for immediate treatment before being shifted to Bengaluru for advanced medical care. Enraged locals later chased down the dog and killed it.

Stray dog attacks have been a growing concern across India, often sparking debates between animal welfare advocates and those demanding stricter control measures. In Karnataka, such cases have been alarmingly frequent. In August, a four-year-old girl from Davanagere, who had been battling for life after a brutal dog attack nearly four months earlier, succumbed to rabies in a Bengaluru hospital.

Data further highlights the severity of the issue: within the first six months of 2025 alone, Bengaluru registered 13,831 dog bite cases, all under the jurisdiction of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

Elsewhere, similar tragedies have also been reported. In Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district, a 30-year-old mentally challenged woman was recently mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs, underscoring the widespread and persistent nature of the problem.
