PM Modi expresses grief over Motihari bus accident which left 27 dead

Meanwhile, the hospitals in Motihari and Muzaffarpur districts have been put on alert as the death toll may rise.

Prime Minister Narednra Modi on Thursday expressed grief over the bus accident in Bihar's Motihari which left 27 people dead.

"My thoughts are with those who lost their loved ones due to a bus accident in Bihar's Motihari. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest," Modi tweeted.

At least 27 people died in Bihar's Motihari district on Thursday after the bus they were travelling in overturned and caught fire. Bihar disaster management minister Dinesh Chandra Yadav said the vehicle caught fire after it fell into a ditch, news agency PTI reported.

The bus was travelling from Muzaffarpur to Delhi on the NH 28 when the accident occurred. The vehicle toppled while the driver was taking a turn, and immediately caught fire, HT reported.

"It is a really painful incident. Local administration officials are present at the spot. We will extend all possible help to the families of those who died," said chief minister Nitish Kumar while speaking at a public function in Patna, according to ANI.

Meanwhile, the hospitals in Motihari and Muzaffarpur districts have been put on alert as the death toll may rise. National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force teams rushed to the spot.
