26-Year-Old Man Admitted To Kolkata Hospital With Nipah Virus Symptoms
A 26-year-old Burdwan resident was admitted to the Beliaghata ID Hospital in Kolkata on Tuesday with suspected symptoms of Nipah Virus. Reportedly the man returned from Kerala earlier this month.
The man worked as a labourer in Kerala. He had initially undergone medical treatment in Ernakulam district and recovered. However, he again fell ill within a few days after returning to Kolkata. He was recently admitted to the Beliaghata ID Hospital.

According to the medical officials, the man fell ill after returning home from Kerala. He was initially admitted to Calcutta National Medical College where he showed some improvement but his fever was persistent due to which he was admitted to the Beliaghata ID Hospital.
Reportedly, persons with whom he lived in Kerala died earlier this month. Doctors suspect they might have died because of Nipah Virus.
Health officials in Kolkata are highly concerned about the situation due to the recent Nipah virus outbreak in Kerala. Doctors are closely monitoring patient's conditions to ensure proper medical care.
According to a senior health department official, they are not taking any chances looking at the patient's recent travel history and symptoms. The patient's journey from Kerala to West Bengal raises concerns about the potential spread of the virus.
Kerala reported the outbreak of the deadly virus that killed at least two people and a thousand people under surveillance. Initial symptoms of Nipah Virus include fever, respiratory distress, headaches, and vomiting. Severe cases can also include encephalitis and seizures leading to coma.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday asserted that the situation was under control, however, the 'threat is not over yet'. Meanwhile, the Kozhikode administration relaxed restrictions as no new cases of Nipah virus infection were reported in the state.
