SVAMITVA Scheme Distributes Property Cards to 242 Individuals in Odisha to Enhance Economic Activities

On Saturday, 242 individuals in Odisha received property cards under the SVAMITVA scheme. This initiative aims to enhance economic activities and alleviate poverty. These cards are part of the 65 lakh distributed nationwide by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi participated in the event in Rayagada district, while Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati attended virtually from Raj Bhavan.

Odisha Distributes Property Cards Under SVAMITVA

The SVAMITVA scheme, launched in April 2020, provides a Record of Rights (RoR) to families owning houses in village areas. This initiative is expected to aid in property monetisation and enable access to bank loans. It also aims to reduce property disputes, improve property tax assessment, and facilitate comprehensive village planning.

Empowering Rural India

Governor Kambhampati expressed on X that this initiative is transforming rural India by securing property rights and empowering landowners. "This visionary initiative is revolutionizing rural India by securing property rights, empowering landowners, and driving economic progress," he stated. The scheme is seen as a significant step towards rural empowerment through technology and good governance.

Prime Minister Modi addressed the event virtually and interacted with some beneficiaries. He highlighted how rural land digitisation is advancing rural empowerment by leveraging technology. The distribution of property cards spanned over 50,000 villages across 10 states and two Union territories.

Progress in Odisha

Majhi noted that 3,045 villages in five districts—Rayagada, Jharsuguda, Nabarangpur, Gajapati, and Dhenkanal—are included under the SVAMITVA scheme's first phase. Drone surveys of properties are ongoing in these areas. "Property cards have been distributed to 242 persons of Rayagada district today," Majhi added.

The SVAMITVA scheme covers states like Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Union territories Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. It aims to help people secure loans and benefit from other government schemes.

This initiative is crucial for economic progress in rural areas by providing secure property rights. It empowers landowners and facilitates better access to institutional credit. By reducing disputes and improving tax assessments, it supports comprehensive planning at the village level.
