24-year-old gangster arrested in Delhi; who is Neeraj Bawana?
Neeraj Bawana, an alleged extortionist, targets rich businessmen and realtors in Delhi and the National Capital Region.
24-year-old Bawana, wanted in several cases of murder and extortion, last year figured in in the list of 10 'most wanted criminals' compiled by the Delhi Police.
In a step expected to substantially reduce crime in the capital, the special cell had slapped an FIR invoking stringent sections of Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) on Neeraj Bawana and his gang.
According to police, Neeraj had made several extortion calls to businessmen and property dealers in the Delhi-NCR region, despite the police being on his trail. He has more than 100 criminal cases in Delhi and in Haryana.
He was also wanted in attempt to murder and various cases of Arms Act.
The extortion ‘king' Neeraj Bawana was arrested in 2012 by the Outer Delhi Police in connection with several cases, including an extortion call to Narela MLA Jaswant Rana's son for Rs.50 lakh. Delhi police had announced a cash reward of Rs.l lakh on his head.
A native of Bawana village in Delhi's outer district, he is the nephew of Mundka MLA Rambir Shokeen.
He was inspired by most wanted racketeer Fazlu Rehman, who is operating from Dubai, Malaysia and Nepal.
Neeraj was arrested in 2012, but absconding for past many years. He makes money mostly out of property disputes.
A school drop-out:
Neeraj Bawana had been synonymous with terror in Delhi for quite sometime.
According to police, Neeraj turned to small crimes after dropping out of school. He was earlier part of the Naveen Bali gang,but later began operating his own gang.
Both Delhi and Gurgaon police have been trying to nab him for last three years.
His brother Rajesh Bawana was arrested in 2014, while his mother and other brothers were recently arrested from the Indira Gandhi International Airport while carrying illegal ammunition.
