2019 Chattisgarh Encounter: NIA Arrests 2 Naxal Cadres

Two naxal cadres including a woman have been arrested by the National Investing Agency (NIA) in connection with an encounter that took place in 2019 in Chhattisgarh near Tiriya village that killed six naxals and one civilian.

The NIA arrested the duo on Friday followed by investigations and search operations.

The accused have been identified as Kandula Sirisha and Duddu Prabhakar. According to the NIA, the duo was working for CPI (Maoist) to promote and expand anti-national activities.

According to the NIA reports, Kandula was earlier an armed cadre. Duddu and Sirisha were funded by CPI (Maoist) to spread the Maoist Ideology. Both were frequent visitors to the core Naxal belt in the Andhra-Odisha border Special Zone.

The Tiriya encounter had taken place in July 2019, with a joint collaboration of the local District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), The operation took place in the Nagarnar area of Jagdalpur district in Chhattisgarh.

They had received information that a group of Maoist cadres had gathered to conspire about carrying out a big incident on July 28.

The security forces recovered arms and ammunition along with handwritten documents, literature, etc. from the encounter site.

The case was earlier registered on July 28, 2019, under different sections of the Arms Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Later the NIA registered the case on March 18, 2021, after the agency took over the case, along with several other cases related to Maoist conspiracy in Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh.
