As a part of their verification process, police officials spoke to the Russian Embassy in the city to find out the credentials of the two Russians. The police also searched their yacht. After the cops were satisfied that the Russians pose no security threat, they were allowed to go free.
"The Russian nationals were let off by Mumbai Police after verification from the Russian Embassy and after search of their yacht," added ANI.
The case has come to light at a time when India has increased security measures across all its borders, including coastlines. The coastal security forces have increased their vigil after the Indian Coast Guard warned about the suspected Islamic State-sponsored militants' possible infiltration into the city via the sea.
