2 Naxals held in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Aug 17: Two Naxals, including a deputy commander rank cadre carrying a Rs 1 lakh bounty on his head, were today arrested from separate places in Chhattisgarh's Kondagaon district, police said.

The arrested, identified as Sunil (32) and Balram Kashyap (26), were apprehended from the forests under Mardapal police station limits by a joint team of security personnel, Kondagaon Superintendent of Police JS Watti told PTI.

Acting on a tip off, a joint squad of state's District Reserve Group (DRG) and a team of local police was mobilised into the interiors of Mardpal, located around 250 kms from the state capital.

On reaching Tumdiwal village forests, security forces nabbed Balram on suspicion. He later admitted his involvement in the Naxal movement as 'Janmilitia' member, the SP said.

Subsequently, Sunil was arrested while security personnel were cordoning off Totar village forests, he said. Sunil was deployed as deputy commander of Golawand LOS (local operation squad) of the banned outfit, he said adding that he was carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head.

The duo was involved in several Naxal incidents, including kidnapping, loot, arson, attacks on police party and others, the police officer added.
