2 killed, 40 injured as bus overturns in Chhatisgarh

Korba, Aug 17: Two persons were killed and 40 others injured when a passenger bus carrying them overturned in the district today, police said.

The accident took place in the wee hours of today at Kendai village near Hasdeo bridge under Bango police station limits when the bus, belonging to a private travel company, was heading towards Garhwa in Jharkhand from Chhattisgarh capital Raipur, Katghora Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Sanjay Mahadeva said.

As per the preliminary investigation, the driver lost his control over the bus, which had around 60 passengers on board, while trying to manoeuvre a sharp curve near Hasdeo bridge, following which the vehicle overturned, the SDOP said.

"Two passengers, who got trapped inside the bus died on the spot, while at least 40 others sustained minor injuries," he said.

The deceased were identified as Kamlesh Kerwa (28), a native of Garhwa (Jharkhand) and an Ambikapur resident Vishwanath Tiwari (60).

After being alerted, a police team rushed to the spot and admitted the injured to local hospitals from where most of them were immediately discharged after preliminary treatment, he said.

A case has been registered in this connection, he said, adding that further probe was on.
