2-Kg Fetus Removed from 7-Month-Old Infant's Stomach In UP
Doctors at Sarojini Naidu Children's Hospital in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, successfully removed a 2-kilogram fetus from the stomach of a 7-month-old infant in a four-hour surgery.
The infant had been suffering from an extremely rare condition known as "foetus in fetu." Dr. D Kumar, leading the team of doctors performing the surgery, confirmed that the child is now in good health post-operation.

The child's father, a farmer from Kunda area in Pratapgarh district, rushed him to the OPD at Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital on July 24. The infant had been experiencing acute pain and had a swollen abdomen. After a thorough examination, a CT scan revealed the presence of a foetus inside the child's abdomen. Tragically, the child's mother had passed away after giving birth to the baby, as per the doctor's statement.
"Foetus in fetu" is an extremely rare medical phenomenon where a malformed and parasitic foetus is found within the body of its twin. It occurs when one of the twins develops inside the mother's womb while the other mistakenly develops within the body of the sibling. The successful removal of the foetus has brought relief and hope for the infant's healthy future.
