15th Kargil Vijay Diwas: Meet the 'real' Manoj Bajpai of LoC Kargil

Kargil, July 26: On the 15th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, India's highest gallantry award, Param Vir Chakra awardee Yogendra Singh Yadav visited Kargil and paid tributes to the slain soldiers.

In an exclusive chat to OneIndia, PVC Yogendra revealed that Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpai had played his character in the 2003 film LoC Kargil.

Grenadier Yogendra who belonged to the 18 Grenadiers team was the commando of 'Ghatak Platoon' and they had to capture Tiger hill top.

On the night of 4th July, 1999, there was snowstorm and Yogendra was climbing towards enemies position along with seven jawans.

When they were climbing up, then the Pakistani troops launched an attack on them in which all his fellows were killed and Yogendra was seriously injured.

"Even after many bullets were fired at me, I kept climbing up, but when there was lot of bleeding, then I became unconscious", he said.

Enemies thought that I was dead and they came towards me, suddenly I lobbed greandes at them", he said.

"Then I alerted other jawans to come up and launch attacks on Pakistani bunkers, then we successfully captured the Tiger hill top", he said.

In 18 grenadiers team, there was another Yogendra Yadav who had laid his life during the war.

On remembering his late friend and slain soldier, Yogendra said, "I was from Bulandshahr and he was from Meerut and we both were very good friends. I and his dead body reached Delhi in the same aircraft. My family members thought that I was sacrificed but, when I communicated with them, I clarified that my another friend with same name was martyred."

On Pakistan

Naib Subedar Yogendra Singh Yadav, PVC said that Pakistani activities are same as they were 15 years ago.

"There has been no change in their thinking. Their government and their youth will have to work a lot to bring change. They should understand that war is not an alternative. As a soldier, it is my duty that I won't let a single inch of our territory go towards enemies", he told OneIndia reporter Richa Bajpai.
