12 Killed, 25 Injured After Container Truck Rams Wedding Party Vehicle On Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway

At least 12 people died and about 25 suffered serious injuries when a container-truck hit a truck carrying a wedding party on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway in Palghar, Maharashtra, around 4 am on Monday.

Police in Kasa said more than 40 guests were travelling in the smaller truck when the crash happened. Local residents, police staff and rescue teams reached the spot soon after and pulled trapped passengers from the wreckage of both overturned vehicles.

Officers said the container-truck smashed into the rear of the smaller vehicle transporting the wedding group, leaving the truck badly crushed. Many passengers were stuck inside twisted metal for some time before rescuers managed to free them and shift the injured.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway accident: police probe and traffic disruption

Those with serious injuries are undergoing treatment at Kasa sub-district hospital. Police have begun a spot inspection, or panchnama, and stated that a preliminary probe points to speeding and negligence as likely reasons, though the exact cause is still under investigation.

Traffic on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway was affected for a while after the accident as authorities cleared the damaged vehicles. The crash has raised concern among local residents about safety on this key stretch in Palghar district.
