12 Dead, Over 20 Injured As Pickup Truck Overturns On MP Highway After SUV Collision

A tragic road accident claimed at least 12 lives, including two children, and left 23 others injured on the Indore-Ahmedabad National Highway in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday night.

The victims were labourers travelling in a pickup truck when the incident occurred.

How the Accident Happened

According to police, the accident took place around 8:30 pm near Chikaliya Phata, close to a petrol pump. Around 35 labourers were reportedly travelling in the pickup truck after finishing work in an onion field.

Officials said the vehicle was moving at high speed when the driver lost control. The truck overturned multiple times, crossed into the opposite lane, and collided with an SUV.
Dhar Superintendent of Police Mayank Awasthi confirmed that the impact of the crash was severe, leading to multiple casualties on the spot.

Casualties and Medical Response

Twelve people died instantly, while several others sustained serious injuries. Ten critically injured victims have been shifted to MY Hospital in Indore for advanced treatment.
The remaining injured are being treated at the district hospital in Dhar.

Dr Madhav Hasani stated that hospitals have been placed on alert and instructed to provide the best possible medical care to all victims.

Government Response and Compensation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the families of the victims. He also wished a speedy recovery for those injured.

An ex gratia of ₹2 lakh each has been announced for the families of the deceased from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund, along with ₹50,000 for the injured.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav ordered senior officials to reach the site and oversee relief efforts. He also announced additional compensation-₹4 lakh for the families of those who died, ₹1 lakh for critically injured victims, and ₹50,000 for others injured. Free medical treatment has been assured for all.

Investigation Underway

Authorities have begun investigating the cause of the accident. Initial findings point to overspeeding and loss of control as key factors, but a detailed inquiry is expected to provide more clarity.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety, especially involving vehicles carrying multiple passengers. As rescue and treatment efforts continue, the focus remains on supporting the victims and preventing such tragedies in the future.
