11,15,597 : Mizoram's estimated population in 2013-14

Aizawl, Jul 11:

has a population of 11,15,597 during 2013-14, according to an estimate of the state health department.

This was announced at the function held in Aizawl on the occasion of the World Population Day today. The state's population, according to the 2011 Census, is 10,97,206.

Health department officials said 87 per cent of pregnant women have the awareness to give birth to babies in hospitals and health sub-centres.

During 2013, at least 738 babies died before reaching one year and the infant mortality rate in the state was 35 out of a thousand, the officials said.
