Ramanathapuram (TN), Nov 15: A court here today sentenced 11 people to one year imprisonment for abusing a man for his caste in 2012. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on five of the accused and Rs 5,500 on the others.

The prosecution case was that the 11 people abused Karthick and his friend by their caste name when they were riding their motorcycle at N Mangalam Pidari Koil area here on Diwali day on November 13, 2012 after waylaying them. On a complaint from Karthick, police registered a case against the 11 people.
