The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway apart from cutting down travel time will also support the growth of industries and businesses
New Delhi, Feb 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on February 12 inaugurate a stretch of the much anticipated Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
Travel time between Delhi and Mumbai will be cut to around 12 hours from the existing 24 hours once the 1,386-km expressway is completed. The expressway will also connect major cities such as Jaipur. For instance the travel time from Delhi to Jaipur would be brought down to just 2 hours once PM Modi inaugurates the Sohna-Dausa stretch of the expressway on Sunday.

The expressway will parallel to the existing National Highway 8. The Expressway is expected to provide a more comfortable and safe mode of transport for passengers. It would also support the growth of industries and businesses along the route.

10 key points about the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway:
- 15,00 hectares of land have been acquired along five states-Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra
- The expressway will be an eight-lane access controlled greenfield expressway. This can be expanded to 12 lanes in the future
- There would be more than 40 major interchanges on the expressway which will. Give connectivity to Kota, Indore, Jaipur, Bhopal, Vadodara and Surat
- This is the first expressway to accommodate animal overpasses, underpasses and has been aligned to minimise the impact on the Ranthambore Wildlife Sanctuary
- To improve commuter experience, there will be 94 wayside amenities
- The Soha-Daua expressway stretch is likely to be open for public from Tuesday
- The Delhi-Mumbai expressway will cut the distance between the two cities to 1,242 kilometres from the existing 1,424
- 12 lakh tonnes of steel have been used for the construction of the expressway. The initial budget of the project in 2018 was Rs 98,000 crore
- There will be a state-of-the-art automated traffic management system on the Delhi-Mumbai expressway
- The project is going to generate 10 crore man-days employment
