Terror Attack On Bus In J&K Reasi: 10 Killed, Over 33 Injured

At least 10 people are dead and over 33 people are injured after a bus carrying pilgrims plunged into a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district on Sunday following a terrorist attack.

SSP Reasi Mohita Sharma says, "Initial reports suggest that terrorists fired upon the passenger bus going from Shiv Khori to Katra. Due to the firing, the bus driver lost balance of the bus and it fell into gorge. 33 people were injured in the incident."

However, the deceased are yet to be identified. Sharma said, "The rescue operation has been completed. The identities of the passengers have not been confirmed yet, they are not locals. Shiv Khori shrine was secured and area domination was done."

She further said that 10 people have lost their lives in this incident.

A rescue operation was launched and reinforcements from police, army and paramilitary forces rushed to the spot, officials told the news agency.

Meanwhile, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has condemned the incident. In a post on X, he said, "Terrible news from Reasi in J&K where 10 yatris have reportedly lost their lives & many more are injured after a terror attack on a bus. I unequivocally condemn this attack. It is unfortunate to see areas that had previously been cleared of all militants see a return of militancy. May the deceased rest in peace & may the injured make a swift recovery."

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said,"Even while PM, Shri Narendra Modi and his NDA Govt get sworn in and heads of several countries are in the country, a dastardly terrorist attack on a bus carrying pilgrims has resulted in loss of lives of at least 10 Indians.

We unequivocally condemn this gruesome terror attack on our people and deliberate affront to our National Security.Our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims wish and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. The Government & authorities should provide immediate assistance and compensation to the victims."

He stated that such terrorist attacks are continuing unabated. Just three weeks ago, tourists were fired upon in Pahalgam, and several terror incidents in Jammu & Kashmir are continuing unabated. All the chest-thumping propaganda of bringing peace and normalcy by the Modi (now NDA) Govt rings hollow. India stands united against terrorism."
