₹1 Crore Kalash Stolen from Red Fort During Jain Religious Event, Suspect Identified

A golden ceremonial Kalash, adorned with jewels and valued at ₹1 crore, was stolen from the Red Fort during a Jain religious event, Delhi Police confirmed. The sacred vessel, weighing 760 grams of gold and embellished with 150 grams of precious stones, went missing from the stage amid ongoing rituals. Businessman Sudhir Jain regularly brought the Kalash for daily prayers.

The theft occurred earlier this week as preparations were underway to welcome a dignitary. Organisers noticed the Kalash missing during the programme, and CCTV footage captured a suspect carrying a black bag. Police have identified the individual, and an arrest is expected soon as investigations intensify.

The incident has raised serious questions about security at the Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In a previous lapse, seven Delhi Police personnel were suspended after failing to detect a dummy bomb during a pre-Independence Day drill. The fort's importance is highlighted by its role in national celebrations, including the Prime Minister hoisting the Tricolour on Independence Day.
