TGSRTC To Run Special Buses For Ugadi, Ramzan Rush; Women Continue Free Travel Under Mahalakshmi Scheme
The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has announced special bus services to handle the heavy passenger rush expected during the upcoming Ugadi and Ramzan festivals.

With thousands of travellers likely to head to their native places, the corporation has put in place detailed arrangements to ensure smoother and safer travel during the festive period.
Extra buses planned for peak travel and return rush
According to the transport corporation, the biggest surge in passenger traffic is expected on March 17 and March 18, when a large number of people are likely to leave Hyderabad and other urban centres for their hometowns. To manage this demand, TGSRTC will operate additional buses on these dates based on passenger requirements.
The corporation has also prepared separate arrangements for the return travel rush, which is expected to peak on March 23. Officials said buses will be adjusted depending on occupancy and route demand so that passengers do not face inconvenience during either onward or return journeys.
Revised fares only for special buses on select dates
TGSRTC clarified that revised fares will apply only to the special buses operated during the festival rush. The temporary fare revision has been allowed under Government Order No.16 issued in 2003, which permits the corporation to increase ticket fares by up to 1.5 times during festivals and special occasions in order to meet diesel and operational expenses.
These revised fares will be applicable only on March 17, March 18 and March 23. The fare change will cover special buses running within Telangana as well as special services operating to neighbouring states during the festival period.
However, the corporation made it clear that regular bus services will continue to run at normal ticket prices, and there will be no fare hike for those buses.
RTC says services will be adjusted based on demand
TGSRTC officials said special buses are being arranged during festivals and major occasions to help passengers reach their destinations safely and without trouble. They also noted that if return services record low occupancy, those buses will be shifted quickly to routes where demand is higher.
This flexible deployment is expected to help the corporation manage real-time passenger traffic more effectively during the festival season.
Free travel for women to continue under Mahalakshmi Scheme
In a major relief for women passengers, the state government's Mahalakshmi Scheme will continue to remain in force during Ugadi and Ramzan as well. Women will be able to travel free of cost in Palle Velugu, Express, City Ordinary and Metro Express buses on the festival days.
The continuation of the scheme is likely to provide added convenience for women travelling for family visits and festival celebrations across the state.
Passengers have been advised to book tickets in advance through the official TGSRTC website, www.tgsrtcbus.in, to avoid last-minute inconvenience. For details related to special bus services, commuters can also contact the RTC call centre on 040-69440000 or 040-23450033.
