Telangana Schools to Begin Half-Day Sessions from This Date – Details Inside

As temperatures continue to soar across Telangana, school students will soon get some relief. The School Education Department has announced that all primary, upper primary, and high schools-across government, government-aided, and private managements-will operate half-day schedules starting from March 15.

Under the new timings, schools will function from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM, with mid-day meals in government-run institutions being served at 12:30 PM.

The last working day for the academic year 2024-25 is set for April 23, after which schools will close for summer vacation from April 24 to June 11. The new academic year will commence on June 12.

Parents Push for Early Implementation

Amid extreme heat conditions, there has been growing demand from parents to implement half-day schooling earlier than scheduled. March temperatures are expected to reach 40°C in several districts, while Hyderabad is likely to experience temperatures between 36°C and 38°C. Given these forecasts, many parents believe an earlier start to half-day schooling would help students cope with the sweltering heat.

The Telangana government has already introduced half-day schooling for Urdu medium schools, parallel Urdu medium sections, and Urdu medium DIET sections during Ramzan, starting from March 2. Many parents are now urging the government to extend the same provision to all schools.

If the decision is finalized, schools will operate from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM, with mid-day meals served after classes in government and local body schools.

With temperatures rising beyond normal levels for March, the shift to half-day schools aims to protect students from the scorching heat while ensuring continued learning.
