Tension gripped Telangana's Banswada town in Kamareddy district on Saturday as a bandh was called following clashes between two communities triggered by a dispute over a devotional song played at a local store.

Several shops remained shut across the town as police intensified security to prevent further escalation.

Dispute Over Song Turns Violent

According to police, the incident began on Friday evening when a man from the minority community objected to the playing of a devotional track at a shopping establishment.

What started as a verbal argument soon escalated into a confrontation involving members from both communities.

Stone-pelting was reported from both sides, leaving multiple people injured. Police personnel who reached the spot to control the situation were also targeted, with a few officers sustaining injuries during the clashes.

Police Action And Vandalism

Authorities resorted to a lathi charge to disperse the crowd and restore order. However, tensions continued to simmer as large groups gathered outside the local police station later in the evening to protest.

During the unrest:

• Small shops and commercial establishments were vandalised in parts of the town
• Protesters assembled near the police station, raising tensions further
• Additional police forces were called in to manage the situation

Right-wing organisations later called for a bandh in Banswada, leading to widespread closure of markets and business establishments on Saturday.

Security Tightened, Situation Under Control

Kamareddy Superintendent of Police Sharad Chandra and other senior officials visited the affected areas to review law and order. Additional forces from neighbouring districts were deployed as a precautionary measure.

Police said the situation is currently under control, with peacekeeping measures in place across the town. An investigation into the incident and those involved in the clashes is ongoing.
