Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao to Be Questioned by ACB in Formula-E Probe
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has intensified its investigation into the Formula E car race event, putting former Telangana minister and BRS MLA KTR in a challenging position. Accusations of misconduct during the event's organization in Hyderabad, under the BRS government's tenure, have led to KTR facing an FIR for allegedly facilitating illegal fund transfers abroad, contravening the FEMA Violation Act. Identified as the primary suspect, KTR has been summoned by the ACB to appear for questioning on the 6th of January at 10 am, indicating a significant escalation in the case.
The inquiry into the Formula E car race has taken a new turn with the issuance of notices to KTR by the ACB on Friday. This development comes after allegations surfaced about corruption in the financial dealings of the car racing competitions, specifically the illicit transfer of money overseas. KTR, who held a ministerial position at the time, has been marked as A1 in the FIR, highlighting his central role in the investigation. The ACB's action signals a move from neutrality to active pursuit in the case, with KTR expected to provide his testimony early next month.

Despite KTR's repeated denials of any wrongdoing in the organization of the Formula E car race, the ACB's latest move suggests a tightening grip on the former minister. KTR has expressed his intention to address the accusations through legal channels, asserting that there has been no real misconduct. However, the ACB's decision to summon him for a hearing on the 6th of January underscores the seriousness with which the bureau is approaching the investigation. This case represents a significant challenge for KTR, as he navigates the legal complexities and strives to clear his name amidst growing scrutiny.
The case against KTR has not only drawn attention due to the high-profile nature of the Formula E car race but also because of the implications it has for governance and the conduct of officials in organizing international events. The allegations of financial misconduct and the violation of international transfer laws pose questions about the oversight and regulatory adherence in such events. As the ACB continues its investigation, the focus remains on KTR's upcoming appearance and the potential revelations that may emerge from the hearing.
