Telangana Govt Formation: In a decisive move, the Congress party's high command has officially nominated Revanth Reddy as the next Chief Minister of Telangana. This announcement brings an end to the uncertainty that had surrounded the CM selection process.

The swearing-in ceremony for Reddy is scheduled to take place on December 7th at 10 am. The date was chosen due to the absence of auspicious days in the next two days, according to reports.

Reddy's selection as CM follows extensive deliberations among the top contenders within the Congress party. The high command ultimately settled on Reddy, recognizing his leadership qualities and his role in revitalizing the party in Telangana.

In addition to Reddy's appointment, around 16 or 17 MLAs are expected to be sworn in as ministers. Senior party members such as Uttam Kumar Reddy, Damodar Rajanarsimha, Sridhar, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Konda Surekha, and Seethakka are among the frontrunners for ministerial positions.

Reports indicate that over 50 MLAs have pledged their support to Reddy, demonstrating his strong backing within the party.

Who is Revanth Reddy? A Political Journey from ABVP Activist to Telangana Chief Minister

Revanth, born into a farming family in Kondareddipalle village near Kalwakurthy in the former Andhra Pradesh (now located in southern Telangana) on November 8, 1968, completed a BA course at Hyderabad's AV College in 1992, as mentioned in his election affidavit.

His political journey began with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) during his student years. Revanth initially entered politics in 2001-02 with the then-nascent Telangana Rashtra Samithi (now BRS) but later moved away, finding success as an Independent in the 2006 Zilla Parishad Territorial Council election.

His early wins were notable victories against the Congress. In 2007, contesting independently, he triumphed over the Congress candidate in the Mahbubnagar area local bodies MLC polls.

Revanth's trajectory shifted when Chandrababu Naidu noticed his potential. Joining the TDP in 2008, Revanth secured his first MLA seat from Kodangal in 2009, defeating the Congress candidate with a margin of nearly 7,000 votes. He amplified his majority in 2014, retaining the seat. Naidu later appointed him as the Telangana TDP working president and assembly floor leader.

Renowned for his cutting speeches, Revanth consistently criticized the KCR regime on various fronts, often referring to KCR as a 'taagubothu' (drunkard) and 'sannasi' (a term used colloquially to imply foolishness).

As the TDP's influence waned in Telangana with Naidu's shift to Amaravati in October 2017, Revanth switched allegiance to the Congress party. His departure irked KCR to the extent that TRS leaders and members were instructed to defeat Revanth in Kodangal at any cost to prevent his return to the assembly. Despite losing his seat in December 2018, he reclaimed it later.

However, Revanth was elected as the Congress MP in the 2019 general elections from Malkajgiri, a substantial Lok Sabha segment.

In contrast to other Telangana TDP MLAs who switched to the TRS, Revanth maintained amicable ties with Naidu. Although labeled by some within his party as "an outsider, Naidu's man in Telangana politics," the Congress leadership appointed him as the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief in June 2021, following the party's consecutive bypoll defeats in Telangana.
