Rains: Telangana Govt Declares 2-Day Holiday For Schools, Colleges

The schools and colleges will remain closed on Wednesday and Thursday in Telangana following heavy rains.

In view of the incessant heavy rains in the state, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has instructed State Education Minister Sabita Indra Reddy to declare a two-day holiday (July 26th & 27th) for all educational institutions in the state, according to ANI.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Hyderabad has issued a red alert for Telangana in light of the forecast predicting very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in various districts of the state for the next three days.

Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected in the eastern districts of Telangana. Areas such as Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medchal, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahbubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Siddipet, Jangaon, Rajanna Sircilla, and Karimnagar may experience periods of heavy rainfall.

Earlier in the day, IMD Senior Scientist RK Jenamani said, "The red alert warning on July 25 is mainly for the South Konkan area, coastal Karnataka. Telangana saw the highest rain in the last 24 hours in Nizamabad with 400 mm of rainfall. The red alert is mainly for Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, South Konkan and Central Maharashtra for the next two days".
