Telangana-Chhattisgarh Border Crackdown Nets 20 Maoists, Arms Cache

Telangana Police have made a huge counter-insurgency advance by apprehending 20 members of the outlawed Maoist Communist Party of India and seizing a sizable arsenal of weapons in the Mulugu district. The arrests come after the recent success of Operation Black Forest, an intelligence-led operation that intended to dismantle Maoist activity along the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border.

The arrests were made between May 16 and 17, according to officials, during patrolling, area searches, and vehicle checks carried out by the Mulugu police stations in Venkatpuram, Wajedu, and Kannagudem. Five members of the Maoist organization's Area Committee and one member of the Division Committee are among those arrested.

The raid was based on intelligence obtained following a huge search campaign conducted by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Chhattisgarh Police in the Karrigutta Hills region, which straddles the border between the two states, according to Mulugu Superintendent of Police Shabresh P. Authorities found that Maoist groups were spreading into smaller cells around the area after taking refuge in Karrigutta.

Weapons and Criminal Activities

Ambushes on security forces, the assassination of suspected informants, and the targeted murders of police and CRPF officers in Telangana and Chhattisgarh were among the severe crimes connected to the captured Maoists. Three 5.56mm INSAS rifles, four 7.62mm SLR rifles, one.303 rifle, four 8mm rifles, two live grenades, and numerous magazines were among the numerous firearms that the police retrieved from the extensive stash. According to officials, these weapons were used against law enforcement in a number of violent incidents.

Explosive devices and Maoist tactics

Along with the arrests, police also disclosed that several IEDs had been planted in the Karrigutta forest area by Maoist operatives. These explosives were designed to assist the insurgents establish a fortified guerrilla base by preventing civilians and security personnel from entering. On April 8, Maoists had previously warned residents to stay away from the area in order to keep control and avoid conflicts.

Operation Black Forest: A Strategic Success

The arrests come shortly after the conclusion of Operation Black Forest, a 21-day intensive campaign launched to destroy Maoist hideouts and operational bases along the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border. The operation, declared successful on May 14, led to the elimination of 31 Maoists, including 16 women. Security forces also confiscated 450 IEDs, nearly two tons of explosives, and a variety of firearms. However, the operation also saw 18 security personnel sustain injuries.

The arrests in Mulugu and the outcomes of Operation Black Forest underscore the continuing efforts by security forces to dismantle Maoist networks and bring stability to the region. With intelligence gathering, surveillance, and coordinated state-level efforts, both Telangana and Chhattisgarh authorities remain committed to ending Maoist violence and restoring long-term peace.
