Telangana Cabinet Approves Formation of Future City Development Authority

The Telangana government has taken a significant step towards urban expansion by announcing the formation of the Future City Development Authority (FCDA). This new authority will oversee the development of a Future City spread across 30,000 acres, covering seven mandals and 56 villages between the Nagarjunasagar and Srisailam highways.

During a Cabinet meeting on Thursday, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy also revealed the extension of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) jurisdiction to the Regional Ring Road, now encompassing 1,355 villages and 104 mandals across 11 districts.

In a move aimed at empowering marginalized communities, the Cabinet approved a draft bill for SC sub-classification and 42% reservations for BCs in local bodies, education, and employment. Women empowerment also took center stage with the approval of the Indira Mahila Shakthi Mission 2025, which will bring all Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under a unified structure. Changes include increasing the retirement age for Mahila Shakthi Sanghams from 60 to 65 years and reducing the minimum age for SHG membership from 18 to 15 years.

The Cabinet also approved a new Tourism Policy (2025-2030), which includes a plan for the comprehensive development of 27 tourist destinations and aims to attract ₹15,000 crore in investments. Telangana will also host the Miss World competition in May 2025, welcoming participants from 140 countries.

Several administrative decisions were also made, including the appointment of 10,954 Revenue Officers (Grama Palana Officers) and the creation of 361 new posts for revenue divisions and mandals. Additionally, 495 posts have been approved for the Residential Schools Society. To prevent excessive submergence of villages, the Gandamalla reservoir capacity has been reduced from 4.28 TMC to 1.41 TMC.

The state government has also announced that Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple will now have a dedicated temple board, similar to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).

Another key development was the decision to hold an all-party meeting under the leadership of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and former Minister K Jana Reddy to address concerns over the delimitation of parliamentary constituencies, which could potentially impact the representation of Southern states.
