Advanced Vacuum Pump Utilized for Efficient Debris Removal
In Hyderabad, rescue operations within the SLBC tunnel have been significantly accelerated with the deployment of a 30 HP liquid ring vacuum pump. This powerful pump, coupled with a vacuum tank, is crucial for rapidly removing debris and facilitating the rescue of individuals trapped within.

The liquid ring vacuum pump operates by utilizing water or another suitable liquid to generate a vacuum. This is achieved through the formation of a rotating liquid ring that effectively traps and compresses gases and materials, subsequently expelling them. This technology allows for the efficient removal of mud and other obstructions, streamlining the rescue process.

Specifically, the vacuum tank integrated with the pump is capable of extracting up to 620 cubic meters of mud per hour. This extracted material is then transported outside the tunnel via a conveyor belt, eliminating the need for laborious manual removal.

Complementing the vacuum pump, autonomous hydraulically-powered robots are employed to conduct the digging operations within the tunnel. These robots, equipped with advanced technology, ensure precise and efficient excavation. The combination of robotic digging and the vacuum pump's efficient debris removal significantly expedites the overall rescue effort.

A diverse team comprising personnel from the Army, Singareni Mines Rescue Team, NDRF, SDRF, Rat Miners, Geological Survey of India, Hydra, Anvi Robotics, and South Central Railway is actively involved in the rescue operations. A high-level review meeting was conducted by Special Chief Secretary of Disaster and Management Arvind Kumar, along with Nagarkurnool District Collector Badavath Santosh and Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Gaikwad Raghunath, to assess the progress and strategize further actions. The deployment of this advanced technology and the coordinated efforts of multiple agencies highlight the commitment to a swift and effective rescue.
