School Holidays: Authorities Order To Shut Govt, Private Schools For 2 Days
All government and private schools in Telangana will remain closed on February 26 and 27 due to Maha Shivratri celebrations. The holiday applies to all educational institutions across the state, allowing students and staff to participate in the festivities.
Also, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the schedule for the MLC elections in Andhra Pradesh with polling set for February 27 and vote counting on March 3. Schools and colleges in election-bound districts-including East & West Godavari, Krishna-Guntur, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, and Visakhapatnam-will also remain closed on February 27 to facilitate the voting process.

Last year, educational institutions in Gautam Buddha Nagar were closed on August 2 due to Shivratri, following a local holiday declared by the District Magistrate. As of now, there are no updates on school closures for next week. Students are advised to check with their respective institutions for the latest information.
Maha Shivratri, also known as the Great Night of Shiva, is an important Hindu festival celebrated annually in honor of Lord Shiva. It falls on the 13th night and 14th day of the lunar month of Phalguna. On this occasion, devotees observe fasts, offer prayers, and visit temples, while offices, businesses, and schools remain closed in many regions.
Government offices, businesses, and schools will also remain closed in election-bound regions to encourage maximum voter participation. This holiday is part of the Election Commission's initiative to ensure a more democratic and inclusive electoral process.
Furthermore, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is in effect, and election officials have been appointed to oversee strict compliance.
